Yendri – Malfunction
Yendri yet again delivers a casket full of shadowy electro-goth. On Malfunction, the overall atmosphere is cold and frequently melancholic; the enigmatic, feminine vocals waft in and out like an ethereal wind, sometimes assuming a singsong chant, sometimes opting for emotional ballast. There is a variety of synth work and programming featured on the album and, while none of it is particularly startling, each song is its own uniquely crafted entity. The tracks range from down tempo darkwave to faster-paced EBM-influenced floorstompers—there are even some surprising pop hooks to catch the unwary. It’s a shame that this project so often flies under the radar; when the electro-goth revolution comes, the unbelievers will be the first against the wall.
