Terror Punk Syndicate – Extended Playtime

When was the last time you heard porn samples in an industrial track?  Terror Punk Syndicate is a Swedish EBM/industrial project that fuses an old-school approach to a decidedly obnoxious attitude.  Musically, Terror Punk Syndicate draw on an array of older groups such as Skinny PuppyFront Line Assembly, and Wax Trax-era KMFDM for inspiration, as well as a more modern coldwave influence that calls to mind acts such as Porcupine Defense and Battery Cage.  Lyrically, well…don’t expect great insights from songs entitled “I Wish I Was Retarded” and “Animal Love.”  I’m assuming the brash shock value of the lyrics is how the project earned Punk as part of its moniker; it’s kind of funny, but ultimately forgettable.  Oddly enough, as much as I find the lyrical content ridiculous, the music on Extended Playtime is good enough that I keep returning to the album for another listen.  I was going to comment that the production on the album sometimes obscures the vocals, but now I’m not so sure that is a bad thing.
