Gillette Fusion Razor

gillettefusionI view shaving as a gentlemanly art…mainly because I don’t have the patience to stick out the itchy growth period that leads to proper facial hair.  As such, I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking and worrying about shaving; “thinking” because I’m always looking to improve my game and “worrying” because I have stubborn course facial hair that often refuses to bow before the blade.  I’m continually on the look-out for shaving products that might make an easier job of it, so when a freebie Gillette Fusion razor came in the mail I knew I’d have to give it a spin.

At first blush the Gillette Fusion seems like the Cadillac of razor blades: it’s got a big blue bumper-like row of “fins” that practically zoom across your facial geography, a stunning array of five (count ‘em, five!) blades to tackle your daily growth, and when the bathroom lamp catches the orange metal exterior in just the right way it gives off a really pleasing glint of light.

It gives a pretty decent shave as well.  I got a nice smooth shave on my cheeks and chin, but I was slightly less impressed with the average job it did on my neck and throat.  The Fusion has a special blade on the back made for “tricky places,” but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference in my experience.  It’s worth noting that I did not cut myself with this razor blade, which is a decided plus in my book.  All in all, not a bad addition to the morning ritual…if the price is right and you’re ready for a razor upgrade, the Gillette Fusion should be on your shortlist.

(Note: this is not the Gillette Fusion Power Phantom, which, besides having the most overly bombastic name possible, appears to be battery-operated.  Somehow the idea of a vibrating rack of blades near my face before the first cup of tea in the morning seems like a sure-fire way to sever an artery.)

(Also worth mentioning in case any razor blade R&D types read this entry: how about making biodegradable blades and handles?  That is a new feature I can get behind.  I really don’t care how many blades you can mount on a single surface, but something environmentally friendly would be much appreciated!)
