The Professor’s Daughter by Joann Sfar and Emmanuel Guibert
The Professor’s Daughter, a graphic novel by Joann Sfarr and Emmanuel Guibert, tells the delightful story of the adventurous love between a mummified Egyptian Pharaoh and the daughter of the antiquities professor who dug him up in the first place. The narrative is a bit of a romp–Queen Victoria gets thrown in the Thames!–but the graphic novel’s brevity keeps the brisk pace of the tale in check. The art is phenomenal; the illustrations have a whimsical Dickensian charm and the water-color effect creates the perfect atmosphere. Now that The Professor’s Daughter is finally available in an English translation, rejoice!
