Black Harvest by Josh Howard
When investigative journalist Daniel Webster travels to Jericho, Texas to write a story on the mysterious phenomenon known as “The Jericho Lights,” he uncovers far more than he has bargained for. On a dark road outside of town, a girl who has been missing for three years stumbles out in front of his car, pulling him into a strange world of local government conspiracies, ancient pacts, rogue military operations, and alien technology. (The girl, of course, is also not what she seems.) Black Harvest plays out like an episode of The X-Files, but unfortunately there are too many loose ends that go unexplained in Josh Howard’s graphic novel. Despite this, the writing and art, which looks like it was influenced by the noir-meets-anime style of Batman: The Animated Series, in Black Harvest are both good, so for people jonesing for a Chris Carter-esque fix this might be the place to look for your next shot of paranoia-inducing weirdness.
