Humanwine – Rivolta Silenziosa EP

humanwinefn2Apropos of nothing, the name Humanwine always makes me think of a beverage equivalent to Soylent Green.  Of course, that thought isn’t very helpful in describing Rivolta Silenziosa, so we’ll be moving on from there.  Humanwine are the band that plays in my head when I think of a ten-in-one attraction at a run-down-yet-fanciful carnival–there is something of a low-rent big top vibe to their combination of guitar, horns, piano, strings, and percussion.  They even pass my dual vocalists test; usually I find that a band with two vocalists only has one vocalist worth listening to, but both of Humanwine’s singers are evocative and, better yet, they sound fantastic together.  Rivolta Silenziosa only has three songs, yet there is something in their mix of Tom Waits-at-a-cabaret, olde-timey art-punk, and socio-political gypsyisms that makes this the best three dollars you’re likely to spend on iTunes.
