Death In June – Free Tibet
Free Tibet is an odd sort of album; it is essentially seven tracks of remixed and original recordings of collaborations between Death In June and David Tibet of Current 93. Some of the recordings are minimal and repetitive post-industrial loops with cut-up vocals, while others fall more into the neo-folk range that Death In June is perhaps best known for. These recordings are quite perplexing; they seem to have come from nowhere, and without any context to ground them it is hard to see where they are meant to go. (Given the title of the album and his public disavowal of Douglas Pearce, perhaps these tracks are some kind of warped kick to the metaphoric groin of David Tibet?) Speculation aside, this is intriguing work…and best of all, Free Tibet is truly free.
