Scarling. – Staring to the Sun EP
Will three songs be enough to tide us over until the next Scarling. album? I’m doubtful, but glad to have them in any case. “City Noise” previously appeared on So Long, Scarecrow, but since it was probably my favorite song for an entire year I really can’t fault the band for putting it out there again. “Staring to the Sun” feels like it should have been an album track. In a way it is the perfect coda to So Long, Scarecrow; it twists the distortion-heavy shoegaze of the album into an almost-uplifting din. The final track of the EP is Scarling.’s crawling version of Pixies’s “Wave of Mutilation.” Somehow Jessicka makes you forget all about Black Francis.
