Autonervous – self-titled
Autonervous is a collaboration between Bettina Kostner (formerly of Malaria!) and Jessie Evans (formerly of The Vanishing) and, unsurprisingly, this band sounds a good deal like their former work. Autonervous is an odd mix of new wave, post-punk, art-school damage, and a dash of modern electroclash. Cold synths and programming glitch-step all over the prefabricated beats; dual vocals overlap without coming together as coherent whole, giving the songs a very theatrical, European feel. And dig the unusual presence and persistence of the saxophone on this album! This is quite possibly the best cure for homogeneous electro I’ve heard in quite some time as Autonervous refuse to fit in with the usual dance floor fare. Fans of unusual electronica take notice.
Post-Script ~ For Mike’s sake, I should mention that one of their songs is called “Easter Bunny.”
