Joy Disaster – Demo
Joy Disaster is a band that wear their influences pinned proudly to their sleeves; the band works in two modes: on songs like “Artemis” and “Senseless Tales,” they sound like Interpol covering Joy Division and on the other half of their repertoire they get mileage out of musical tropes swiped from 80s goth rock. Even the name Joy Disaster is a dead giveaway, innit? Of course, this would all be less forgivable if their songs weren’t so catchy. Yes, Joy Disaster is almost comically derivative at points, but their songs are delicious ear worms that are hard to shake. With a little polish and a few original flourishes, they could become a force to be reckoned with. Consider this a work in progress.
