Black Ice – Terrible Birds

blackiceterribirdsBlack Ice sound like they belong to a different time and a different era of music, but they’re ours, all ours! Following in the footsteps of post-punk and no wave acts like Teenage Jesus & the Jerks, The Birthday Party, (early, noisome) Siouxsie and the Banshees, and X-mal Deutschland, Black Ice make a quite the racket; Terrible Birds is controlled chaos at its finest, really. Pinprick guitars and chiaroscuro bass and keys whirl like a funhouse mirror while haunted screeches and some rather excellent, nearly tribal, drums push you farther down a dark, dark hallway. This is a vicious phantasmagoria and I cannot get enough.
