Attrition – Tearing Arms From Deities
Tearing Arms From Deities is a compilation of songs that span Attrition’s existence, hand-picked by main-instigator Martin Bowes. Attrition have always been a unique, instantly-recognizable voice in experimental music, and this album does a fantastic job of revealing how varied, yet unified, the project’s corpus is. The neo-classicism of “I Am (Eternity)” flows effortlessly into the dreamlike industrial fugue of “Dreamsleep”; the electro-pop of “Shrinkwrap” bleeds perfectly into the noisy cacophony that is “Beasts of Burden.” Even longterm Attrition fans have good reason to seek out Tearing Arms From Deities: though Attrition’s albums are all represented here, some of the tracks are rare, compilation-only appearances. Fans should again take note that the liner notes feature Bowes’s personal explanations of how the songs fit into the overall schema of Attrition and his own life. If nothing else, Tearing Arms From Deities has made me adore Attrition even more.
