Chiasm – PreFrontal

chiasmprefrontalEmileigh Rohn’s music is one of the often overlooked treasures of the dark electro/industrial genre. Hopefully, this EP will change that. PreFrontal is an EP done right; instead of a disc packed with redundant remixes of one track, there is quite a bit of variety here. Including on PreFrontal are three versions of the title track–one of the most aggressive Chiasm songs to date–the dystopian “Cryostat,” a fantastic cover of Attrition’s “A Girl Called Harmony,” and two very different mixes of Emileigh’s Biomod side-project. The two Biomod mixes showcase what makes Emileigh’s approach to the genre noteworthy: the “Piano Mix” is a somber mix of vocals, minimal electronics, and synth piano that doesn’t rely on arpeggiation. The “Chiasm Mix,” on the other hand, takes the same song and adds in layers of perfect dark electro programming. Yet, underneath it all, the same commitment to musicianship holds both versions of the song together.
