2046
Is 2046 a year, a room number, or a sci fi novel about sexy androids on a train? Wong Kar-Wai’s lush semi-sequel to In the Mood for Love is all of that. The story takes place on several Christmas eves as Chow Mo-wan, a struggling author and ladies’ man, attempts to get his freak on with some beautiful and challenging females. Just like the previous film, the screen is a colorful 1960s dream world, and the director is just as obsessed with filming womens’ hips and cigarette smoke in slow motion. Visually it’s quite stunning and seductive, but the repetitious plot and jerky leading man get tiresome.
