Voltaire – Paint it Black: A Guide to Gothic Homemaking

voltairepaintitblackWhat is the use of retiring to your crypt at the break of day if it’s decorated in cream, pastels, and floral print curtains? If your domicile has been giving you more angst than normal, Voltaire’s Paint It Black: A Guide to Gothic Homemaking might just help you shake off the ennui, so you can get back to moping about more important things like the sad state of MTV. Drawing from his own experience in spookifying his surroundings, Voltaire’s latest book is a slim volume full of easy how-to projects such as candelabra, flower arrangements, graveyard cakes, and the like. Some of the projects are a little too over-the-top for my tastes, particularly the gothic baby dolls and the gothic picture frames, but there will be something in this book to appeal to just about anyone of a morbid inclination. (I’m especially excited by Voltaire’s suggestion for macabre shelving on the cheap!) Of course, if you follow every project in this book your home will end-up one big Gawfick cliche, but as a source of inspiration this tome can’t be beat. (And you could easily turn this book into a drinking game if your took a shot every time Voltaire references one of his own songs; he’s certainly a master of cross-merchandising!)
