Finally a tribute theme that Cleopatra Records didn’t get to first: Bertolt Brecht. Black Sun Productions (who, in this incarnation, includes ARTerroists Maximo & Pierce, Fabrizio M. Palumbo, Lydia Lunch, Coil, Julia Kent, and HR Giger) have crafted a homage to the radical German playwright and poet that goes far beyond the usual pale cover versions that generally constitute a “tribute”. The music of Operett@morale is perhaps best described as “post-industrial cabaret”: Kurt Weill samples dance a throbbing, sultry ditty as the kaleidoscope brightens to colors that are, by turns, bawdy, sinister, beautiful, amorous, decadent, and else. Subversive and sublime. So this is where poetry has gone in the hollow age…
