Blood Axis & Les Joyeaux de la Princesse – Absinthia Taetra
I imagine that the creators of this music find themselves in a place illustrated by the evocative cover of Absinthia Taetra: minds held firmly in the grip of the Green Fairy. The soundscapes that this collaboration between Blood Axis and Les Joyeaux de la Princesse create manage to incorporate disparate sources such as classical music, the poetry of L’Heure Verte, the music hall, and post-industrial modernist atmospherics into a substantial whole. (A fair warning: this album does incorporate work from a previous absinthe-fueled collaboration, though it is heavily re-worked.) At its heart, this album is as much a celebration of absinthe, that most mysterious of green elixirs, as it is a grim warning of the madness that may follow. Imbibe carefully, salut!
