Deady by Voltaire
This comic tells the mischievous story of Deady, an interstellar evil trapped in the form of a cute, cuddly teddy bear. Drawn in Voltaire’s instantly-recognizable “I-can-sort-of-draw” style, this book does not compare favorably against his earlier work in Oh My Goth! or Chi-Chian. The problem with Deady as a character is that he really doesn’t seem like the terror he’s made out to be; he’s more of a mildly-vicious prankster. The humor is forced, the jokes stale, and the stories too often threadbare. (The stories vary wildly in quality throughout the series depending on who is “guesting” on them.) Ultimately, Deady feels like a character designed to hawk t-shirts at Hot Topic, which is actually the case.
