People say that Richard Linklater is some kind of “indie” filmmaker. School of Rock? Fun, not worth the accolades delivered, but enjoyable. Bad News Bears updates the seventies classic, and for a PG movie has some tasty dialogue. Billy Bob Thornton is as excellent as he always is, and the kids, Marcia Gay Harden and Greg Kinnear do a fine job supporting him. I laughed out loud several times, and although there wasn’t too much in the form of surprises (other than the lack of cameos) I would recommend this to anyone who looks fondly back on the original.
