Tyler Bates – The Devil’s Rejects Original Motion Picture Score
In The Devil’s Rejects there is so much going on aurally and visually that the musical score often fades into the background, probably as it was intended to. A stand-alone listen to Tyler Bates‘ score for the film reveals it to be a far more articulate set of music than you might otherwise guess. An orchestra of pilfered industrial sounds creates an ebb and flow of ominous waves that simultaneously lulls you and sets your teeth on edge. Then the world erupts in a frenetic blast of clattering rhythms that sound ever so much like the beatings of a terrified heart. There are a few quiet pieces as well, and even a bit of demented circus music. This album could easily hold it’s own against any of the big names in dark ambient music, it is a worthy addition to any collection of nightmares.
