The Dreamside – Open Your Eyes single
The Dreamside make perfectly serviceable modern goth music: guitars crunch along, synths add an element of swirling orchestration, beats propel the dance floor, and female vocals hit all the right notes. The only problem is that there isn’t much here to separate the Dreamside from the pack of bands that have a similar style, even with the addition of guest vocals from Rogue of the Cruxshadows on “Open Your Eyes”. This single also includes another song called “Spin Moon Magic”, which is cast in a more gothic-metal vein but still lacks a certain something. Of course, the requisite remixes of “Open Your Eyes” offer a few more danceable options, but since these reworkings fail to do anything different with the song, they’re instantly forgettable. Also included is a Making of “Open Your Eyes”- the video featurette, which illustrates everything that annoys me about much of the modern goth scene. It’s all about sexy PVC outfits and pseudo-fetish club theatrics with painfully little substance. And really, who wants to see how they made the video? Just show me the video already! Oh yeah, there’s some wallpapers for your computer desktop on here too, but does anyone ever really use those?
