Dark Sanctuary – Thoughts: 9 Years in the Sanctuary
Dark Sanctuary play piano and vocal-based music in a distinctly somber vein. Their sound is fleshed out by violins, synths, and surprisingly athletic percussion. At times they can be majestic, at others they are utterly mournful. Dark Sanctuary’s songs do not offer much in the way of variation, however; all of their material is painted in shades of grey, much like the cover of this album. Thoughts: 9 Years in the Sanctuary gives a good introduction to this group, collecting songs from their albums released on French record labels. Fans of neoclassical goth should find this quite appealing.
