Banjo & Sullivan – The Ultimate Collection: 1972-1978
This is a “greatest hits” of sorts from Banjo & Sullivan, the fictitious band from Rob Zombie’s forthcoming film the Devil’s Rejects. Banjo & Sullivan play rocking country straight out of the 70s: acoustic guitar, fast pickin’ banjo, and Grand Ole Opry vocals packed into a tight, radio-friendly pop format. Strangely, the songs on the Ultimate Collection do not feature content that you would have heard on the radio back in those halcyon days; if song titles like “I’m at Home Getting Hammered (While She’s Out Getting Nailed)” and “Dick Soup” are any indication, things get a bit raunchy. While this album is played for laughs, it really isn’t a parody in the strictest sense: the songs are just too fun to be taken as a joke. What ever happened to these good ol’ boys anyway?
