Lords of Dogtown
A mostly factual re-telling of the story of the Z-Boys, who were already featured in the excellent documentary Dogtown and the Z-boys, Lords on paper seems unnecessary. However, instead of detailing the whole history and all the characters, Lords focuses on the three most famous members, hard-working Stacy Peralta (who wrote Lords and directed Dogtown), arrogant Tony Alva and super-talented Jay Adams, and chronicles their rise to fame and how their paths diverged. The fictional character Sid serves the purpose of being a passenger in the ride to the top, and also to humanize some of the characters who might have otherwise been percieved as almost villainous through the film’s narrative.
