Hellboy
Like an amazing looking dinner whose flavor was distinct but not to my liking, Hellboy was a visual spectacle with impressive makeup and special effects, but as a film it left me unsatisfied. Although I am a comic book fan, I make no effort to distinguish myself with any sort of indy-cred. I like superhero stories. I have never read Hellboy, looking at it on the racks, it never inspired me to pick it up. So I entered the movie as someone just looking for a stand-alone cinematic experience. I even enjoyed some parts (most notably baby Hellboy and when older Hellboy tries to hide his cigar from his father). Selma Blair seemed not only out of place as an actress but as a character; The new liason could have been more fleshed out and some of the lines almost bordered on corny. Maybe all of these were carried over from the comic book, but on the screen they did not work.
