Nine Inch Nails – With Teeth
I imagine that the problem with being Trent Reznor is that there is an awful lot of expectation riding on your latest album. (The Fragile was proof that you can’t please everyone, even over the course of two discs worth of material.) So, With Teeth has arrived, now what to do with it? It isn’t as angst-centric as Pretty Hate Machine or The Downward Spiral, as pummeling as Broken, or as wildly iconoclastic as The Fragile; it’s a different entity entirely. Also, don’t be fooled by “The Hand That Feeds”, this record isn’t Mr. Reznor’s bid for electro-pop popularity. My advice: enjoy the subtle layering of sounds and the unusually propulsive drumming. Multiple listens may be required, but will prove rewarding.
