Billy Idol – Devil’s Playground
Idol has reteamed with Steve Stevens. No more cyberpunk. No more haircuts that aren’t bleached blonde and spiked. Stick with what you know. Listen to a complete Billy Idol album from his heyday: there are some great songs, but there are also plenty of stinkers. Billy’s newest album in quite some time does have moments reminiscent of Rebel Yell and White Wedding, but oddly it also has moments where it sounds like a Robbie Williams album. The first songs on the album don’t even really sound like Billy: no growl, no sexuality, no snarl, but he finally does get back into his old rythms, and although I don’t think he’ll be on top of the TRL charts anytime soon, he cleaned the tarnish off of his legacy. Now, he can wait for his Rock and Roll Hall of fame induction (along with Black Sabbath, Rush, Yes, the Sex Pistols, Grandmaster Flash, etc……)
