I Heart Huckabees
All talking, all the time. I’m one of the people on the side of the fence that found I Heart Huckabees to be too quirky for its own good, its constant high-pitched verbal barrage exhausting and annoying. It reminded me of the similarly amped-up Punch Drunk Love, starting feverishly and lacking in tolerable dynamics. Ironically, for a film so celebrated for its whirlwind of existential ramblings, the few scenes I actually like and remember clearly are the rare moments when characters simply stare silently at each other. And you know there’s something wrong with a movie that makes Lily Tomlin seem sexy. Yes, I Hate Huckabees.
