I remember seeing Meet the Parents for the first time. Although I laughed, the whole movie was built upon a series of what i call the Three’s Company Syndrome: miscommunications lead to humorous situations (ie Jack the ex CIA spook has his daughter tell Gaylord that he is a botanist. Gaylord buys him an exotic plant, and Jack has no clue why Gaylord would give it to him… insert laughs… Gaylord forgets his bathing suit, his hosts give him a banana hammock, they stare at him when he comes to the pool wearing it….) Ugh. Some funny moments, but ultimately a film about stupidity and situations that would be avoided by any real person who lives in reality (Who would start eating at the table before the hosts?). Meet the Fockers is the long awaited follow-up to this cinematic masterpiece. The early word was that Jerry Stiller, Ben’s RL (that is Real Life for you internot non-hipsters) father, would play Ben’s father. Instead we got Dustin Hoffman and Barbra. Honestly, there weren’t even any funny moments until about 1 hour into the film. Just painful situations. If you loved the first one, you might like this.
