The Pits: The Pits and the Pendulum

If you’ve got an itch for raw psychobilly that needs scratching The Pits and the Pendulum might be just what the doctor ordered. In this case, the good Doc’s name is Morbid and he lends a definite Lux Interior vibe to The Pits’s brand of raucous rock. The Pits are a band who have all the right influences in place: retro style, a Cramps-esque racket-n-roll, covers of “Witch Doctor” and “Frenzy”, and a liberal sprinkling of samples drawn from horror and sci-fi movies, but the band never goes completely off the rails in true maniac fashion. Even so, The Pits and the Pendulum is an album that only gets better the longer it plays; while some shockabilly acts sound tired after after the first three tracks, this record only gets red hot by the time “Flames, Flames, Flames” and “Cult of the Whip” roll around.
