The Pixies, Live in Concert, 11/30/4, Mullins Center, UMass, Amherst

pixiesheadsImagine seeing Boston in Boston, Ween in New Hope, or Sinatra in Hoboken, that is the case seeing The Pixies where it all started, on the UMass campus. Melodioc and chaotic, ninety minutes of nonstop rock-n-roll, with the only banter being a discussion of what dorms they lived in and to say thank you every once in awhile. The reunited Pixies were as musically tight as one might expect them to be, and seemed to enjoy being on-stage together. With most songs in the three-minute range, 90 minutes means almost 30 songs, and it was the first time I’ve seen an actual feedback solo (and I have seen Sonic Youth). Kim Deal reaffirmed my crush on her: there is something dirty, dangerous and sexy about her all at the same time; her backing vocals are what truly seperates the Pixies from those other bands who wannabe. Her solo vocals on In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator) were the highlight of the show for me. Kim Deal is the hottest woman in rock! Considering there are those who might shout Death to the Pixies, I can only hope their zombie-forms rock as hard.
