Dirty Pretty Things was a dirty pretty movie. Ms. Amelie herself, Audrey Tatou is the most recognizable face, but is matched in on-screen presence by her co-star Chiwetal Ejiofor. Things is a tale of immigrants in England and how far they have to go to be in the country and how far they will go to stay in the country by obtaining new passports. Ejiofor’s stoic portrayal of a former doctor who now must work numerous menial jobs just to make ends meet was the pivotal performance in the film. He never complains and his obvious intelligence reveals itself as the characters in the film delve deeper into the dirty world they inhabit and that they must escape. A compelling film not populated with movie stars, Things should be seen by anyone who enjoys substance over style.
