Q: The Winged Serpent
I have a lot of movies in my Netflix queue. So many, in fact that I sometimes forget why I put some of them in the queue at all. I can only fathom that the coolness exhibited by David Carradine in Kill Bill and the Kung-Fu Season 1 DVD was my main reason for wanting this 1982 “horror” movie. Based on my rudimentary knowledge of mythology, the titular Q (short for Quetzalcoatl) is a winged, feathered, serpent. I was kind of intrigued to see what a filmmaker’s vision of this creature would look like compared to drawings and illustrations from texts and Monster Manuals. Plus, the idea of Quetzalcoatl living atop a skyscraper in NYC and killing folks seemed kind of cool. The special effects creature looked like a dragon. It wasn’t cool or feathered. The movie itself had all the bad of a cheap special effects film from the 70s and early 80s without any of the good.
