Primer

primerI saw Primer over a week ago, and still can’t stop obsessively thinking it over. Everything about it is minimal — almost entirely shot in a garage and a U-Haul trailer, centered on two characters in drab unchanging wardrobe, produced for only $7,000 — but the story it tells is a gigantic mind-bender, a puzzle that keeps growing after you’ve left the theater. It’s definitely not for impatient viewers looking for a lot of action (or any action, some would argue). Primer is getting its share of criticism for being too oblique and dry, but I can’t wait to watch it repeatedly on DVD. Highly recommended for fans of Cube, Memento, Pi, and 2001.
